INDIA'S REVA ELECTRIC CAR MULLS CONTRACT MFG PLANTS IN US, EUROPE

India's Reva Electric Car
Company on Sunday said it is scouting for partners in the US and Europe for setting up contract manufacturing facilities for its electric vehicles, besides doubling its overseas markets by 2011-12.

"We are at exploratory stages for setting up contract manufacturing facilities in overseas markets, including one in the US with Bannon Auto. No deals have been finalised so far, but we expect some positive results soon," Reva Electric Car Company President (Sales & Marketing) R Chandramouli said.

REVA had last week announced plans to explore options for a plant in Iceland, and had already tied-up with investment firm Northern Light Energy (NLE) to promote and market the electronic vehicles in the North Atlantic island nation.

"Talks have started in Iceland. We are also negotiating with local manufacturers in other countries as well," Chandramouli said.

He, however, declined to give details about the likely investments, size of the plants, branding and other issues.

Reva Electric Car sells its electric cars in 24 countries across the world and is aiming to double the markets.

"Our aim is to have the REVA brand in 50 countries by 2011-12. This is part of our strategy to increase the use of eco-friendly cars across the world," Chandramouli said.

REVA had showcased its NXR and the NXG concept cars in the Frankfurt Auto Fair in September, and the vehicles are scheduled for global launch in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
